Boc said PDL’s decisions while in government got Romania through the crisis, but affected the voters.
The former prime minister added he will not run again for party leadership, but will focus on his term as Mayor of Cluj-Napoca.
PDL had been in government since 2004, with Boc as prime minister since December 2008, but widely-criticized austerity measures cost them voter confidence. In February 2012, the last Boc Cabinet was replaced with a new PDL government led by Mihai Razvan Ungureanu.
Shortly afterwards, in April, the Ungureanu Cabinet lost a vote of no confidence and the Social-Liberal Union (USL) ousted PDL from government.
In the local elections in June, PDL suffered a new series of defeats, losing many local administrations to USL and PPDD, with the exception of Cluj-Napoca, which elected Emil Boc.
