On Monday, the price paid for the euro at exchange offices in the center of Bucharest was RON3.95/RON4, while buyers paid RON2.77/RON2.97 for one American dollar.

The number of euro buyers and value of transactions increased in the last days, a representative of an exchange office in the center of Bucharest said.

“(…) I think their number is 20% higher. The number of American currency buyers is also higher, but not as significantly,” he added.

Other exchange office representatives share the same opinion, some noticing a buyers increase as of Friday.

The Romanian leu depreciated strongly against the european currency in the last week and the National Bank of Romania computed an indicative of RON3.9410 versus the euro on Monday, 6.4% lower compared to RON3.7028 in September 29.

Dealers polled by Mediafax appreciated that the Romanian leu will continue its descending path and might even reach 4.2 units against the euro.
