Eurostat: Romania 9-Mo Trade Deficit EUR15B Vs EUR9.6B On Yr

Romania ranks fifth in Europe by trade deficit in the first nine months of the year, up two places against the corresponding period a year ago, according to the statistical office of the European Union, Eurostat.

Romania’s trade deficit reached EUR15 billion in January-September 2007, compared to EUR9.6 billion a year ago, Eurostat said.

The United Kingdom registered the largest deficit, of EUR100 billion, followed by Spain (EUR69.0 billion), France (EUR31.3 billion), Greece (EUR28.2 billion), Romania, Portugal (EUR13.5 billion) and Poland (EUR11.9 billion).

Germany was the EU country with the largest trade surplus in the mentioned interval, of EUR146.8 billion, followed by the Netherlands (EUR29.9 billion), Ireland (EUR23 billion), Belgium (EUR12.1 billion) and Sweden (EUR10.1 billion).

Eurostat data concerning the Romanian trade deficit is similar to the figures released by the country’s statistics institute, or INS, which indicate a trade deficit of EUR17.22 billion in the first ten months of the year.
