At the end of 2007, inflation climbed to 6.57%, 1.5 percentage points above the central bank target, when consumer price index hiked by 0.64% in the last month of the previous year, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
The central bank set for 2007 an inflation target of 4%, plus/minus one percentage point, the target for this year being 3.8%, with the same variation margin.
In the latest report on inflation in November, the central bank reevaluated its inflation forecast for 2008 at 4.3%, after adding 0.6 percentage points.
