Romania will seek a strategic investor for state-run airline Tarom by end-2011, with a view toward full privatization when market conditions permit it, according to the country’s draft letter of intent agreed with the International Monetary Fund.

The document, obtained by MEDIAFAX, stipulates the government is planning to hire an international consultant to prepare key-privatizations of state-run companies.

Tarom is among the 20 state-owned companies monitored by the IMF under a two-year financial agreement slated to start early May.

The national carrier reported a 24% increase in passenger number to 2.2 million in 2010, from 1.7 million a year earlier.
