EXCLUSIVE: Romanian Boxer Diaconu Is The New World Boxing Champion

 

“At this moment we can say that Adrian Diaconu is the new light heavyweight world boxing champion. We have not been officially notified yet by WBC, but I think it is only a matter of few hours or one day at most. Practically, the 24 hours ultimatum given to the American boxer by the world’s forum to accept to fight Diaconu in Romania has expired. Dawson is not willing to fight him, although he has been offered the grant stipulated by WBC. Thus, Diaconu becomes automatically the rightful world champion, said Rudel Obreja, President of the Romanian Boxing Federation.

Romanian Boxer Adrian Diaconu won his interim WBC light heavyweight world champion belt, after defeating American Chris Henry in April 19, by decision, in Bucharest.

Thus Diaconu became contender for the world title, while reigning champion Dawson is bound to defend his belt, in accordance with WBC regulations.

After becoming WBC world champion, the Romanian boxer will have to defend his title probably in fall, in a fight that might be held in Romania.
