The primary income balance, which covers funds from investment and employment, posted a deficit of EUR4.96 billion in 2018 compared with a deficit of EUR4.638 billion in 2017.
The goods and services balance recorded a deficit of EUR6.7 billion, compared with a deficit of EUR5.97 billion in 2017.
The secondary income balance posted a surplus of EUR2.247 billion in 2018, from a surplus of EUR2.641 billion the year before.
Foreign direct investment stood at EUR4.936 billion in 2018, compared with EUR4.797 billion in 2017.
Of total FDI, equity stakes (including estimated net reinvestment of earnings) amounted to EUR4.042 billion, while net intra-group lending stood at EUR894 million, the data showed.
Romania’s total external debt grew by EUR1.1 billion from end-2017, standing at EUR98.476 billion at the end of 2018. Long-term debt stood at EUR67.2 billion, accounting for 68.3% of the total external debt.
