The Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) posted Monday morning the partial results, after counting the votes in over 48% of polling stations. Incumbent president Basescu leads with 32.84%, followed by social democrat Mircea Geoana with 29.17% and liberal Crin Antonescu with 20.78%.
Trailing behind are far-rightist Corneliu Vadim Tudor (5.39%), Hungarian minority representative Kelemen Hunor (4.57%), independent Sorin Oprescu (3.48%) and Steaua FC owner George Becali (1.85%).
The other candidates earned less than 1%, according to the partial results posted by BEC. Green Party candidate Remus Cernea obtained 0.64%, socialist Constantin Rotaru – 0.42%, independent Eduard Manole – 0.37%, Ecologist Party candidate Ovidiu Iane – 0.24% and independent Ninel Potarca earned 0.20%.
