Magistrates of the Pitesti Court of Appeals allowed Friday the appeals issued by the two defendants’ lawyers and have overruled the decisions of the Arges Court, which had denied their requests for temporary release under judicial control.

According to Judge Paula Andrada Cotovanu, the Pitesti Court of Appeals spokesperson, the decision comes with a few restrictions: the defendants are banned from attending sporting events, approaching the other co-defendants and their families, witnesses and experts, and are prohibited from practicing their profession.

The decision is final and may not be appealed by prosecutors.

Referees Savaniu and Sorin Corpodean and the self-suspended vice-president of the Central Commission of Referrers, Marcel Lica, were placed under 29-day preventive arrest on April 23 on charges of bribe taking.
