Health Ministry state secretary Adrian Streinu-Cercel announced that, as of Saturday, people may also be vaccinated at the Lahovari Ophthalmology Hospital and the Colentina Hospital. The Ophthalmology Hospital currently possesses around 500 doses of vaccine, but more can be sent if required.
Streinu-Cercel called on family doctors to support the vaccination campaign, which is free.
Over 2,000 people were inoculated Friday and Saturday morning at the „Matei Bals” Institute alone, with a further 1,500 waiting in line. More doses of vaccine were brought from the „Cantacuzino” Institute, following the many requests for vaccination against the new flu.
Around 210,000 people had been vaccinated in Romania by January 3, 2010, with the number of requests rising tenfold after this date, the Health Ministry announced Thursday.
The vaccination campaign is free and available to all individuals older than 16.
On December 15, 2009, authorities announced that Romania is prepared to produce five million doses of vaccine by February 2010.
The campaign began on November 26, 2009, with the delivery of 1,340,000 doses of vaccine.
