Philip Morris International Production Hiked Worldwide, Dropped In Romania

Philip Morris cigarette production climbed by 0.9% in 2007, to 291.3 billion units, but in Romania, Russia, Serbia and Turkey, deliveries were lower compared to the previous year.

Phillip Morris International, part of the American group Altria, manages tobacco industry operations outside the US. The company registered in 2007 $22.8 billion net income, up 9.6% on 2006, according to a press release issued by Altria.
 
Altria registered a 5.8% hike in net income in the previous year, to $38.1 billion, as a result of greater cigarette sales in the US, as well as on an international level. The net profit, which includes Kraft Foods operations before detachment, dropped by 18.6%, to $9.8 billion.
 
The Altria board authorized, Wednesday, the detachment of Philip Morris International from the group, starting with March 28, according to a press release issued by the group.
 
Therefore, Altria shareholders will receive one Philip Morris International share for each share they held in the group. Shares will be distributed on March  28.
