The Alba county Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU Alba) announced that the intervention was officially closed around 18.00 local time on Wednesday evening
The Solina spices factory, near Alba Iulia’s industrial park, was engulfed by flames on Saturday morning, with the fire’s causes currently unknown. Most of the building – including production and depositing halls – burned down.
No victims were registered, as the only person present in the factory at the time was a security guard, who alerted authorities.
ISU Alba announced that 38 fire trucks were used on Saturday, as firefighters were brought in to help from the neighboring Hunedoara, Cluj and Sibiu counties.
Several firefighters who received awards on Wednesday for their roles in the intervention described the case as the worst fire they have ever dealt with.
A committee formed out of firefighters, police and representatives of the company and its insurer will make an investigation into the fire’s causes.
The factory was bought by French food company Solina in 2016. The group announced that it will temporarily transfer the factory’s production activities to several other of its factories in Europe, and gave assurances that it will not give up on its activities in Romania.
