Five children in western Romanian locality Belint, Timis county, wound up in the hospital Thursday night, with sever burns, as the house they lived in blew up then caught fire because one of the children threw a bottle of fuel into the stove.
Five Children In W Romania Hospitalized After Blast, Blaze
According to a press release issued by the Timis County Police, in the building inhabited by a family with five children, there was a blast followed by fire, when an 11-year old girl threw a bottle of fuel into the stove. Seven family members were injured in the blaze, suffering burns on their hands and faces.
Three ambulances arrived on the scene, and took the victims to the Lugoj hospital. The blaze was put out by two fire trucks.
Five of the victims are children. The eldest girl, aged 16, was taken to the Timisoara County Hospital, in the burn victims unit. She is still in shock and has second degree burns on her face, hands and feet.
The other four children wound up in the "Louis Turcanu" Children’s Hospital and, according to doctor Mihai Gafencu, two of the children, a two-year old boy and a ten-year old girl, are in serious condition. They have burns on their faces and hands, and initial investigations revealed that their respiratory ways were damaged, thus they were committed to the intensive care unit.
According to the quoted source, the other two children, aged four and 11, have burns on 10% of their bodies, and they are in better shape than the others.
The father has also suffered minor burns, as the parents tried to rescue their children from the blaze.
Several police officers and representatives of Child Protection Services went on location Friday to gather information for the investigation.
