Some of the Romanian associations’ representatives complained to the head of state about the activity of Romanian consuls in different countries, saying that some of them do not speak any foreign language at all.
Basescu assured them that there will be a selection of the Romanian consuls after the November elections.
He mentioned the fact that the Government has an “appetite” for appointing incompetent people or people belonging to the Government’s political clientele for the position of consul.
Basescu assured the people attending the forum that the organizations in charge of the Romanian diaspora will receive more funds as of next year.
In the morning, Basescu attended a religious service held by an Orthodox church.
He recommended Romanian citizens who attended the forum, as well as the religious service, to show solidarity, in order to be better represented in front of the local, regional and European authorities.
He backed the idea that the Forum of the Romanian Diaspora Associations be organized next year in Romania, so as to enable the participation of more people.
