Romanian Ex PM Willing To Run For Soc Dem Party Presidency If Current Leader Becomes President

Romania’s former social democrat prime minster Adrian Nastase said late Wednesday on Realitatea TV that he would be interested in running for president of the Social Democratic Party if current president Mircea Geoana gets elected head of state.

Asked whether he is to run for party president if Geoana wins the presidential election this fall, Nastase said: "If I have my colleagues’ support, yes."

Nastase added the party’s presidential candidate will be officially designated during the party’s national council meeting Thursday afternoon.

The social democrat also said it is essential for the party to “revalidate” itself as a main political force in the country, which also includes winning the presidential election.
