Flu Epidemic Death Toll Grows To 118

An 82-year old man from Arges county became the latest victim of Romania’s influenza epidemic on Wednesday, raising the death toll to 118.

The victim, a resident of the Stefan cel Mare commune, was also suffering from other medical conditions and had not been immunized against the disease. The man was diagnosed with AH1 influenza virus.

According to the Arges National Public Health Directorate, this was the fourth death caused by the epidemic in the county.

Other four more death attributed to the disease were also confirmed on Tuesday evening, bringing disease’s death toll to 118 for the season.

Romania’s Health Ministry declared a nationwide flu epidemic on January 30, following three consecutive weeks in which the numbers of new infection cases surpassed initial estimates.
