Flu Epidemic Death Toll Grows To 72

Two more people infected with type A influenza died during the weekend, raising the death toll of Romania’s current flu epidemic to 72, according to the country’s National Public Health Institute (INSP).

A 32-year old man from Teleroman county and a 41-year old woman from Olt county died on Saturday, after both were diagnosed with type A influenza, subtype (H1)pdm09.

Both victims were also suffering from other medical conditions and had not received flu shots, according to INSP.

The death toll for the current flu season has risen to 72.

Romania’s Health Ministry declared a flu epidemic last week, after three consecutive weeks in which the numbers of new causes surpassed initial estimates.
