The victims, three women aged 68, 64 and 81 years from Calarsi, Sibiu and Ilfov counties, respectively, died within the past two weeks. All three were confirmed with type A influenza.
The Sibiu county victim, aged 68, was not suffering from other medical conditions and had received a flu shot this season, making it one of the few cases of the epidemic where the vaccine was ineffective.
The other two victims both were suffering from other medical conditions and had not been immunized against the disease.
The current epidemic’s death toll reached 138, surpassing the one registered in the 2017-2018 flu season, when 129 deaths were attributed to the disease.
