Romania’s Democrat Liberal Govt Sacks Social Democrat Deputy Prefects In 15 Counties

Romania’s democrat liberal government decided in its meeting Saturday to sack social democrat deputy prefects in nearly 15 counties countrywide, following a split in the governing coalition on October 1, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX.

The information was subsequently confirmed by Government spokesperson Ioana Muntean, who said 23 social democrat deputy prefects in 15 counties were sacked and another 16 democrat liberal deputy prefects were appointed, of which, three from among government inspectors.

Romanian democrat liberal Prime Minister Emil Boc on Friday said the Government would sack social democrat deputy prefects until Saturday.
Boc announced Friday that social democrat secretaries of state within all ministries were sacked and their cabinets were disbanded as a result of social democrats’ pullout from the ruling coalition.
Romanian social democrat ministers in the center-left coalition government handed in their resignations on October 1 after President Traian Basescu endorsed the democrat liberal prime minster’s decision to sack social democrat Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Dan Nica.
