Ionescu, 49, sent an e-mail Monday to Singapore's Foreign Minister George Yeo informing the latter that he is willing to offer "moral compensations" to the wife of Tong Kok Wai who was killed in the hit-and-run accident, but he will not partake in the criminal probe to set off Wednesday.
On December 15, 2009, a car belonging to the Romanian embassy hit three pedestrians in Bukit Panjang, Singapore. One of the victims, 30 year-old Tong Kok Wai, died ten days later, while the other two were injured. The Romanian diplomat, who is thought to have been driving the car, initially reported the car stolen and denied any wrongdoing.
