Romania Dec Construction Output Rises At Fastest Pace In EU

Seasonally adjusted data showed construction output in the EU increased by 0.5% in December compared with November, EU’s statistics office Eurostat said.

It said December output fell in eleven EU states and rose only in Romania and Spain (6.2% compared with November 2009). The largest decreases were recorded in Slovakia (-11.3%), Slovenia (-8.1%) and Bulgaria (-7.9%).

Year-on-year, EU construction output dropped by 3.3% in December 2009. Spain (+7.5%), Poland (+2.5%) and the Czech Republic (+2.3%) were the only member states to post annual growth in December.

The largest annual decreases were recorded in Bulgaria (-33.3% in December last year vs the same month of 2008), Slovakia (-19.7%) and Slovenia (-18.8%).

In Romania, construction output fell 7.1% on the year in December, the eighth biggest decline in EU.
