Romanian Govt Revenue Service To Close 1/3 Of Regional Offices By September

Romanian government revenue service ANAF will close, by September, around 150 local financial administration offices, more than a third of its current network, because they are not efficient.

This restructuring will be gradual, beginning with communal and town financial administration offices, which provide only a small share of the revenue collected for the state budget, said ANAF president Sorin Blejnar on Thursday.

The closing of inefficient offices is part of a larger program for ANAF’s reorganization, along with layoffs and personnel relocation.

„A larger share of the employees will be relocated to fields with a personnel deficit, such as fiscal controls or the administration of major taxpayers, where collection rates are much higher,” said Blejnar.

The Financial Guard and Customs Authority will not be absorbed by ANAF, which will be reorganized through layoffs and the closing of some regional offices, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX earlier.

In early March, a draft Government decision said ANAF would take over the duties of the Customs Authority and Financial Guard. The move would have cut about 5000 jobs, bringing ANAF’s staff to 29,100 employees.

The sources said the Government has dropped this plan, likely because it did not have the entire ruling coalition’s support.
