The shortlist was sent by the selection panel to European Parliament President Antonio Tajani and Romanian Justice Minister Tudorel Toader – the latter informed as justice minister of the current EU Council president-state – and was published by former presidential counsellor Sebastian Lazaroiu.

According to the document, magistrates considered for the office are Kovesi, French prosecutor Jean-Francois Bohnert and German prosecutor Andreas Ritter, in the order of preference.

The shortlist was selected by the panel in its February 1 meeting by vote.

The EPPO will be a EU-wide independent prosecutor’s office responsible with investigating, prosecuting and arraigning individuals who commit offences which damage the EU’s financial interests. The institution is currently expected to begin its activity until the end of 2020.
