Former President Ion Iliescu Released from Hospital Following Heart Trouble

The former head of state was hospitalized and subjected to surgery on Monday for pericarditis. The hospital announced that the surgery was successful.

Iliescu was transferred from the institute’s ICU to its cardiology section on Thursday and was released the following day.

The former president, age 89, previously went through surgeries for heart conditions, and had several stents inserted throughout the years.
