The former chief of cabinet announced his decision in a Facebook post, to which he also attached his resignation request. In the document, he mentions a “total disagreement” with decisions taken by the party’s central leadership.

Tudose did not make any references to his term as MEP, which he obtained while running on Pro Romania lists. Party Chairman Victor Ponta previously requested the former PM to forfeit the office, should he leave the party.

The conflict between Tudose and Pro Romania was based on the former prime minister defying party orders to vote in favor of the Ludovic Orban cabinet in early November. The Liberal Party government narrowly passed its investiture vote, also with the help of several Pro Romania rebels.

Mihai Tudose left the then-ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD) in January, in order to join Pro Romania.
