Former Social Democrat PM Stages Political Comeback

Romania’s former prime minister Adrian Nastase told MEDIAFAX he submitted his candidacy Tuesday morning for the position of head of the National Council in the Social Democratic Party (PSD).

The council meets Friday, Feb 22, to chose its president and party treasurer.
 
Nastase recently said he would run for this position if he has enough support from his fellow social democrats.
 
Party leader Mircea Geoana said at the time he cannot deny a party member the right to run for a position within the party.
 
Nastase has been shunned from the political scene in recent months following a corruption scandal.
