Finnish Authorities Demolish Romanian Beggars’ Camps In Helsinki
Finnish authorities on Monday started by removing a container used for shelter by Romanian beggars and will continue by tearing down tents and improvised shelters in Kylasaari and Kalasatama.
Over the past few years, Finland has seen an increasing number of Romanians of Roma ethnicity begging on its city streets. Finnish social services have tried to monitor their state of health and offer them assistance.
Police fear Romanian criminal groups might soon start running groups of beggars as it often happens in other European countries.
