France Speeds Up Expulsion Procedures For Rroma Minority

Swiss paper Le Courier reported operations have started in September. In the morning, Rromas are surrounded by French security, who put them on buses and send them to the border of Romania or Bulgaria. Authorities then destroy the empty barracks to avoid the settling of other immigrants.

"In 2006, nearly 6,000 people of the 24,000 expelled were Rroma," said MP Alima Bumediene-Thiery, adding she is concerned about the “Rroma hunt."

The paper added that following the accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the European Union at the beginning of the year, French authorities had to tighten measures to prevent a massive wave of illegal Rroma immigrants, which usually gather in large communities and set camp on the outskirts of cities, under bridges and abandoned industrial halls.
