Other headliners confirmed for the festival so far are The Killers, Manowar, Aftershock, Motorhead and Iggy Pop.
Franz Ferdinand, named after Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, was formed in Glasgow in 2002 and the current line-up includes Alex Kapranos (vocals, guitar), Bob Hardy (bass), Nick McCarthy (rhythm guitar, keyboards, backing vocals) and Paul Thomson (drums, percussion and backing vocals).
The band first experienced chart success when their second single "Take Me Out" reached no. 3 in the UK Chart, from by their debut album titled “Franz Ferdinand”.
Their second album, "You Could Have It So Much Better", reached no. 1 in the UK Chart soon after its release. Late 2007, the band started work on "Tonight", their third studio album, to be launched this week.
Picked by Irish pop legend U2 as the opening act for their Vertigo Tour, Franz Ferdinand is renowned for its live shows and its presence in festivals such as Glastonbury, Roskilde, Exit, Sziget, Werchter, Benicassim, PinkPop or Coachella.
Last year’s festival line-up included artists such as Alanis Morissette, Cypress Hill, UNKLE, Kaiser Chiefs, Manic Street Preachers, Stereophonics, Nouvelle Vague, Nelly Furtado, Manu Chao, Roisin Murphy, Sunrise Avenue, Judas Priest, Primal Fear, Ross The Boss and others.
