„Lending without trust is impossible. The central bank has deliberately pumped liquidity into the market and all banks have money. They can resume lending today, in a minute even,” said Adrian Vasilescu, adviser to central bank governor Mugur Isarescu.
Speaking at an economic seminar, Vasilescu said Romania can no longer witness a lending boom similar to the one during 2004-2008, at least not in the foreseeable future.
However, the banks in Romania proved more resilient to the global meltdown than the lenders in other countries, which spared the country from making sacrifices to bailout the system, Vasilescu said.
