Over 50 households in the town of Negresti, in the eastern Romanian county of Vaslui, were flooded with muddy waters drained off the mountain sides around the town.
"In just 20 minutes, over 50 homes were flooded and in some homes the water level exceeded one meter. We are now assessing the damages and we’ll contact county authorities to see what help we can get,” said town mayor Ioan Cozma.
Also Friday afternoon, heavy rain flooded four households in Oancea commune, in the eastern Romanian county of Galati, and part of the county road 242 E.
Water levels on the river Prut continue to rise, but have not yet exceeded flood alert levels, said Viorel Zaharia, head of the Galati county emergency inspectorate.
Traffic was difficult Friday afternoon in Targoviste, southern Romania, following 15 minutes of heavy rain and hail.
