Bush Recalled Rainbow In Bucharest Revolution Square In 2002
Bush arrived Wednesday morning at the CEC Palace in center Bucharest where he delivered remarks within the Bucharest conference organized by the German Marshall Fund. The U.S. official is accompanied by First Lady Laura Bush and State Secretary Condoleezza Rice.
The event was also attended by romania’s former heads of state Ion Iliescu and Emil Constantinescu, as well as social democrat leader Mircea Geoana, former prime minister Adrian Nastase, social democrat Titus Corlatean, prosecutor general Laura Codruta Kovesi, former foreign minister Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, central bank governor Mugur Isarescu, education minister Cristian Adomnitei and other officials.
Bush started his speech by thanking former president Iliescu and Constantinescu, the Latvian president, ambassadors and the Romanian central bank governor for their presence.
Bush recalled his visit to Bucharest in 2002, when a rainbow appeared over the Revolution Square where he was with former Romanian president Iliescu.
The White House leader said he would never forget the time when the clouds scattered over the square and made room for a rainbow, which, he said, announced better days for Romania.
He added Americans proudly call Romanians friends and partners of NATO.
