Romanian Folk Artist Ion Dolanescu To Be Buried Sunday In Bucharest

The late artist’s son added his father’s body will be laid Saturday either at the Athenaeum or the Sala Palatului concert hall in Bucharest, where people will be able to pay their respects.

Ion Dolanescu, 65, died Thursday afternoon of a heart attack in his home in Bucharest, despite paramedics’ efforts to resuscitate him.

Dolanescu is famous for numerous radio and television broadcastings, many folk concerts, as well as his duets with famous folk artist and former wife Maria Ciobanu and their son Ionut Dolanescu.

In 1966, Dolanescu graduated from Ienachita Vacarescu high school in Targoviste, southern Romania, and later on attended the School of Popular Arts.

Dolanescu, who was awarded the 1970/1996 Gold Disc for his entire artistic career, recorded over 50 folk albums and had a close collaboration with famous Romanian folk artists Maria Tanase, Ionela Prodan and Elena Merisoreanu.
