Early Thursday, Tariceanu held talks with Mitsubishi officials about the growing Romanian automotive industry, which is one of the Government’s top priority fields.

“The government plans to shape up a strong car industry in Romania. Moreover, potential investors can find ample supply of graduates from a strong university and secondary school systems,” Tariceanu said.

The Romanian car industry has been one of the most lucrative sectors of the country’s economy in recent years and has been attracting more and more interest from foreign investors, such as French carmaker Renault and U.S. giant Ford.

Renault, which owns the Romanian auto plant Dacia, currently produces the low-cost Logan exported all over the world.

Ford has recently pledged to invest EUR675 million to upgrade a Romanian car plant, which belonged to the bankrupt South Korean Daewoo.

Tokyo-based Mitsubishi Motors, which eyes a net profit of JPY50 billion ($480 million) by March 2011, plans to more than triple its profit over the next three years by increasing sales in emerging markets.
