“All Romanian citizens will have free access to the work market in Hungary. It is a gesture to show Romania we have no fears in the matter and to consolidate the relations between the two countries instead of making them tensed,” Hungarian Premier Ferenc Gyurcsany said at the end of the joint government meeting between Romania and Hungary.
The Romanian counterpart Calin Popescu Tariceanu explained the move will allow Romanians to work in Hungary if they find the salaries more attractive, but said people who do not speak Hungarian will have a harder time getting a job there.
Under the current legislation, Romanians are allowed to work in Hungary without permit only in four sectors, which include 254 practices. The rest of the sectors are only open to Romanians who own work permits.
