Thus, transport operators who disregard the daily or weekly intervals of driving and rest will be sanctioned with fines up to two or three times higher, respectively up to RON6,000, compared to the current RON2,00-3,000 fine ceiling currently applied, according to an ordinance approved Saturday by the government.
At the same time, for the use of vehicles without tachograph or vehicles with analog tachographs, or for the use of counterfeit tachographs, transport operators will pay fines ranging from RON10,000 to RON20,000.
The same fine will be paid by transport operators who fail to store, at most every 28 days, data from the tachographic charts of auto drivers or operators who fail to keep data on the driving and resting intervals of drivers for at least one year since data registration.
Similar fines will be applied to drivers who have tachographs on their vehicles but who do not use the tachographic card or tachograph diagrams.
According to the government, these regulations are meant to “ease inspections” performed after the occurrence of an accident.
The ordinance will come into force after three days since being published in the Romanian Official Journal.
