9 Romanians Estranged In Libya After Italian Employer Steals Their Passports

It said the Romanian embassy in Tripoli, Italy started legal proceedings to bring home the Romanian workers, who need exit visas approved by the employing company to leave Libya.
 
The Romanian diplomats have been keeping in touch with the estranged nationals for approximately one month, granting them consular assistance, the ministry said.
 
According to Romanian TV channel Antena 3, the nine Romanians who left to find jobs abroad “have been sequestered in Libya”.
 
“The employing company seized their passports and abandoned them with no papers and no money. The nine Romanians entered Libya presenting business visas, and they were told they will sign labor contracts there. They were told this was customary. In Libya, however, the company pulled a 180-degree turn on them. A representative if the Italian company simply confiscated their passports,” the television channel reported.
