Romanian Govt Ups Min Wage To RON540 From RON500 Oct 1

The Romanian government decided on Wednesday to increase the minimum monthly gross wages to 540 lei (EUR1=RON3.5974), based on the agreement the representatives of trade unions and employers signed with the government at the end of July.

The increase will come into effect starting October 1.

According to the agreement, the minimum wage is to grow to RON600 on January 1, next year and is seen at 50% of the average salary by 2014.

In July, the gross average salary was up 1.8% on the month to RON1769 while the net average salary stood at RON1308, or RON35 higher on the month.
