Voter Turnout In Romanian Local Elections 49.38%
Some 40.77% of the registered voters in urban areas cast ballots by 9 pm, the country’s Central Electoral Office said.
Rural polling places saw 61.26% turnout.
Strongest turnout was reported in Ilfov county – 64.70%, followed by Giurgiu – 61.20%, Teleorman – 60.59%, Olt – 60.58% and Valcea – 58.57%.
Turnout at polling places in Bucharest was of 31.05% by 9 pm, with fewest voters in 3rd District.
On Sunday, Romanian voters elected their future mayors, local and county councilors and presidents of County Councils.
Polls closed at 9 pm.
