German Car Mkr Volkswagen Brings Scirocco Model To Romania

Porsche Romania, local importer of Wolkswagen cars, launched the Scirocco hatchback, available in two petrol engines, at prices ranging between EUR21,603 and EUR24,808, VAT included.

The sales target for Scirocco, which is available exclusively with three-door hatchback body, is 60 units this year and some 250 units in 2009, Wolkswagen brand manager Matei Albulescu told MEDIAFAX.

The base engine of the new VW model develops 160 horsepower from 1,400 cc. this engine comes exclusively with a manual gearbox, with seven gears, which brings the car to a top speed of 218 km/h, going from zero to 100 km/h in eight seconds.

The second engine, also petrol powered, develops 200 hp from 2,000 cc and can have a manual gearbox, but also an automatic one, each with six gears.

For the second engine, the top speed is 235 km/h (233 km/h for the automatic gearbox), and the car goes from zero to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds (7.1 seconds with the automatic gearbox).

Volkswagen sales in Romania grew by 55.3% last year, compared to 2006, from 15,004 to 23,315 units.

In the first eight months of the year, 14,165 Volkswagen cars were delivered in Romania, 4.6% less than in the similar period of the previous year, when 14,861 cars were sold.

At the end of 2007, Volkswagen cars held a market share of 7.4% in Romania, while after the eight months of 2008, the German brand held 7.1% of the market.
