In an event promoting his new book, the president said that the incident showed how Social Democrat Party (PSD) leader Liviu Dragnea envisioned Romania’s future.

“You know where Dragnea’s idea of Romania was seen most clearly? In Topoloveni. Several discontent citizens allowed themselves to disagree with Dragnea and jeered them. They were shoved in a van and shipped to the police (…) That’s where he wants to take us. I can’t agree with something like this, I hope that you don’t either,” said the president.

According to Arges Gendarmerie representatives, ten individuals were detained in the Topoloveni and escorted to the local police headquarters, last Friday, after they staged an impromptu protest during Dragnea’s visit to the town.

Opposition party PMP and 41 civic groups requested the resignation of Interior Minister Carmen Dan over the incident.

Liviu Dragnea visited the Arges county town on Friday afternoon to take part at an event organized by the Topoloveni Town Hall at the local community center.
