Beside the European Council, Basescu will also attend the summit of the European People’s Party.
The head of state said this is the last European Council under French rule and the agenda includes hot topics, such as the “problems generated by the lack of ratification of the Lisbon Treaty and solutions regarding the structure of the European Commission and the reduction of the number of commissioners".
"Romania’s stand is very clear. We consider the European Commission should continue to have the same structure with each member state having a commissioner. If most EU states wish to apply the Nice Treaty as of Jan 1, Romania will not discard its European Commissioner,” Basescu said.
