In March, Romania ranked first with a growth rate of 32.5% compared to March 2007.
Slovenia’s 32.8% first quarter growth in construction output was the highest in the EU. High growth rates were also registered in Poland – 14.5%, Lithuania – 12.6% and Slovakia – 12.5%.
Spain witnessed a decline of 8% in the first quarter, while in Portugal the decline was of 2.9%.
Eurostat did not dispose of data from 14 member states.
In the European Union, construction output increased in the first quarter by 2.8% compared to the first quarter in 2007, while growth in arch stood at 4.2%.
In calculating construction output Eurostat looks at construction and civil engineering works.
