Giovanna Reggiani, The Italian Woman Attacked In Rome, Died

The 47-year-old Italian woman attacked and raped in Rome by a Romanian immigrant, died Thursday at 19.34 local time after a cardiac arrest, immediately after doctors acknowledged that “brain activity had ceased,” La Repubblica informed online.

At the time of death, her husband, admiral Giovanni Gumiero, and all close relatives were by her side at the Sant'Andrea hospital in Rome.
Nicolae Romulus Mailat, the 24 year old Romanian charged with the rape and battery of Reggiani, claims that he only stole her purse, without violence. However, authorities claim that the Romanian origin Romani man raped and beat the woman.
According to forensics, the victim suffered cranium-facial trauma that caused cranium hemorrhage, leading to the state of coma.
Nicolae Romulus Mailat was arrested after several eyewitnesses said they saw him carrying the body. At the time of his arrest, he had scratches and wounds on his face.
