Union leader Vasile Petrariu told MEDIAFAX on Friday that the unions will decide Wednesday, after the Government adopts the emergency ordinance containing the austerity measures, whether they will go on a one-day solidarity strike, or stop working indefinitely. He said the union might provide one third of the regular traffic, or only strike for a few hours.
Of RATB’s 11,000 employees, some 4,000 represented by Petrariu will go on strike.
Ion Popescu, president of the Meridian union federation, said Thursday, after talks with the Government, that railway unionists will halt trains and go on general strike starting May 31, in protest to the Executive’s plan to cut wages by 25%. He added that subway and public transport employees are considering the same course of action.
