The Romanian Government will not pass the state budget proposals for 2019 this week, with the executive to approve to finish and approve the draft in a meeting early next week, government sources told MEDIAFAX.

Initially, the Government was rumored to schedule a second meeting this week on Saturday to approve the project, which would have allowed parliamentary amendments to be filed throughout the weekend.
Senate Chairman Calin Popescu Tariceanu called a common standing bureau of the two Parliament chambers to decide on a schedule for lawmakers to debate and vote the project.
The budget proposal generated controversies because of its lateness – with Romanian public administration working on a default budget of one twelfth of last year’s budget for January – and also due to criticism received from municipality mayors, who were discontent with a lack of consultation on the project and demanded a higher share for local administrations.
