Govt Can Pay Wages, Pensions Without Delays By End ’09 – Romanian PM

The Romanian Government can pay wages, pensions and social aid until the end of the year without delays, Prime Minister Emil Boc said Saturday on Realitatea TV channel.

"Wages, pensions and other social aid will be paid until the end of the year without any problems," Boc said.

He reminded that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is considering the possibility to grant a part of the loan convened upon in the stand-by agreement to the Government, to fund the budget deficit.

The head of the National Liberal Party, Crin Antonescu, publicly asked the prime minister to say whether the budget has enough money for wages and pensions for the next months, pointing to "signals" that their payment is in danger.
