Political sources previously told MEDIAFAX that the budget held by the Romanian Ministry of Education in 2009 would be higher than 5% of the GDP, but it was not certain to reach the legally provisioned 6% of the GDP.

According to the quoted sources, the government had initially considered assigning 4% of GDP to education.

Following talks held Wednesday night, the coalition decided that the Ministry of Education will receive, in 2009, a budget worth more than 5% of the GDP, even nearing 6%.

The quoted sources added that teachers will receive salary bonuses in 2009 as well, but these bonuses will depend on the system reforms and professional performance.
