The ministry said aggression against Romanians in Italy must not escalade.

“The Romanian Embassy in Rome notified Italy’s Foreign Ministry on cases of violence and discriminatory and xenophobic attitude against the entire Romanian community in Italy, requesting such situations be prevented and a change of language, including on the political level,” the ministry said.

It said the Romanian Embassy sent letters to prefects and mayors in the areas where cases of aggression against Romanians where reported (such as Guidonia), requesting official measures to prevent attacks and protect the Romanian migrants.

According to the ministry, the situation of Romanians in Italy will be closely monitored and further action will be decided based on evolution in the territory.
