Compared with the year-earlier month, however, new car registrations inched up 1.2% in September, the ministry’s license and car registration division said.
In January to September, new car registrations reached 62,348 units, down nearly 30% from 88,645 units in the same months of 2009.
Overall new auto registrations – including commercial vehicles, trailers and special purpose vehicles – reached 8,390 units in September, down 2.5% on the year.
Dacia, made locally by French Renault’s unit Dacia Automobile, was again the best-traded brand on the local new cars market with 1,784 units in September, down from 2,954 units sold in August.
In 2009, new car registrations in Romania fell 59% on the year to 116,012 units.
